The heavy snowfall in southern districts of the country has lead to snow build-ups of up to 2.5 meters thick. The Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure has announced that several roads are blocked, IPN reports.
According to the authorities, the road M3 Chisinau - Cimislia - Comrat - Vulcanesti - Giurgiulesti is blocked between kilometers 158 and 161 (Ciumai - Burlaceni) and km 127-137 (Svetloie – Balabani). Similarly, the road R 37 Ceadir-Lunga - Comrat - Cantemir is blocked between km 51 and 54 (Visnevca village), the road R 38 Vulcanesti - Cahul – Taraclia between km 67 and 69 and km 72 -75 and the road R 52 R 30 Tudora – Palanca, at the border with Ukraine, the first 6 km.
Snow removal crews are working to clear the access roads to the villages Baurci-Moldoveni in Cahul district, Samalia, Tolica, Bobicica, Acui-Dimitrova and Craciun (Cantemir district); Cotovscoie, Dezghingea, Chioselia Rusa, Chiriet-Lunga, Avdorma (Comrat); Volontir, Copceac, Semionovca, Marianca de Jos and Brezoaia (Stefan Voda); Cairaclia, Mirnoie (Taraclia) and Ialpug, Constangalia (Cimislia).
During the night, the road maintenance crews have dumped over 1500 tonnes of anti-skid material on national and local roads. Overall, 391 workers and 300 special snow plug have been deployed.
People who encounter major difficulties in traffic are encouraged to call the green line of the State Administration of Roads at 022 748961 and request the intervention of snow removal crews.
In the central and northern districts, the roads are drivable.
