The roadmap for enhancing competitiveness in Moldova will be submitted to the Government before October 15. In the final consultations on the roadmap, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said the document envisions adjustments that resulted from the negotiations on the creation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the EU, IPN reports.

“The measures of the roadmap refer to the commercial constraints, tax and customs administration and ensuring of loyal competition on the market. There were highlighted problems concerning the preparation of staff for companies, implementation of innovations in production, steps that must be taken to modernize infrastructure,” said Valeriu Lazar.

According to him, in order to increase the competitiveness of every company and of the economy in general, the efforts should be joined. Most of the measures included in the roadmap are to be implemented in the second half of this year and in 2014.

Sergiu Harea, division head at the Chamber of Trade and Industry, said that such a document was necessary. The period planned for implementing the measures is short. The businesses will need not only the financial support of the development partners, but also consultative support.

Raisa Bejan, of the Sugar Producers Association, said that though the sugar producers export about 30% of the sugar to the EU and there are no objections to its quality, they have yet a lot to do to become competitive on the EU market. They need to continuously modernize the production process, to reduce production costs and to increase productivity.

As to the competitiveness of the national business sector, Raisa Bejan said that many companies make effort to become competitive, but there are persons who are waiting for somebody to come and change things. The companies should first of all count on their own forces, while the state should pay increased attention to education, including the economic one.
