Road workers do not have what to stop up Chisinau streets with
The road workers in Chisinau do not have enough material to stop up all the holes that appeared in the streets after the snow melted, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We didn’t expect that the winter will damage the streets so badly. These holes appeared over the last three days,” the director of the municipal road maintenance company “Exdrupo” Efim Cheptanari said in the January 21 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials.
“Last year, we used 180 tonnes of cold asphalt on 1,800 square meters. This year so far we used 50 tonnes already. There is only one supplier of cold asphalt in Moldova. We signed an agreement with it for 200 tonnes, but the Ministry of Transport also purchased a part of it and there is less now. We will have cold asphalt only in February,” said Efim Cheptanari.
According to the Head of the Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu, stopping up works have been carried out on 500 square meters of road during two days and material remained for a similar area.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said in this connection the fact that there is only one producer of cold asphalt in Chisinau is not an excuse. The only explanation is that they planned a certain amount, but needed more as the situation was different. The mayor stated that at least the same quantity as last year should have been stored for this year and a contract should exist between the producer and “Exdrupo”, based on which all the municipality’s needs must be met.
