Road tax for foreign vehicles to be paid from November 1
Owners of vehicles that aren’t registered in Moldova will have to pay a road toll that oscillates depending on the period of stay in the country starting with November 1. Finance Ministry spokesman Boris Harea has told Info-Prim Neo that the tax will be paid at all the internal customs posts and when entering the country.
The tax for staying for 7 days in Moldova will be €2, for 15 days – €4, for 30 days – €7, for 90 days – €15, while for 180 days – €25.
The Customs Service will issue the drivers who will pay the tax with a document showing that the toll was paid. They will have to carry it with them so as not to pay fines.
If the road tax is not paid or it expired, the police or a mobile team of the Customs Service will draw up a report and will impose a fine on the driver. The drivers will be also unable to leave Moldova if they do not present the document showing that the tax or, possibly, the fine, was paid.
The fines will vary between 2,000 and 2,600 lei. If the driver repeatedly breaks the law during the same calendar year, the penalty will rise to 6,000 lei.
A vehicle with foreign license numbers can stay in Moldova for at most six months during a calendar year.
