Road police organise “Be Careful, Children!” campaign
The road police are conducting a campaign themed “Be Careful, Children!” between September 3 and 8. The activities organised as part of the operation are designed to prevent road accidents involving minors.
According to Ion Roscovanu, inspector of the Road Safety and Administrative Surveillance Service of the Chisinau Road Police, police patrols work near 20 pre-university education establishments helped by students dressed in light-reflecting coats. The operation is carried out during rush hours, between 7.30 and 9.00, and in the afternoon from 13.00 to 14.00. In order not to miss the classes, the students leave the posts five minutes before they start.
According to Roscovanu, the police officers together with their young colleagues patrol on 31 August and Banulescu-Bodoni street near “Mircea Eliade” high school, on Puskin and 31 August streets near “Gh. Asachi” high school, on Alecu Russo near “Lucian Blaga” lyceum etc. They warn the students to use the zebra crossing and the drivers to stop and let the children walk across.
With the new school year having started, the Road Police urge the parents not to let the minors without supervision and remind that the movement by bicycles along public roads is forbidden for children aged under 14.
Over the past 24 hours, the Road Police inspectors discovered 428 offences, including 38 cases related to the illegal crossing of the street. A pedestrian was hit and injured by a car while crossing the street irregularly.
