Road maintenance companies to be reorganized
The 38 joint stock road maintenance companies of Moldova will be reorganized by merger. Their number will be reduced to 12. The initiative already obtained the Government’s approval, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru said the reform envisions not only a simple reduction in the number of these companies, but also the enhancement of their work by implementing modern road maintenance technologies and a modern management system, in compliance with the international standards. The financial, technical and managerial capacities of the reformed companies will be strengthened so as to ensure their competitiveness.
According to a study of the Swedish company SWEROAD, carried out with support from the World Bank, the implementation of the reform will significantly improve the quality of the works to maintain the national roads and the administrative costs will be annually diminished. The reformation process will last for three years. The reform at some of the companies already started.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat said this reform will enable to attract private investments to the road sector and to increase competitiveness in this area.
