Road Fund’s resources to grow
The Road Fund of Moldova could accumulate MDL 185 mln in 2007, of which more than MDL 157.33 mln will be spent for the refurbishing and maintenance of the national roads.
Besides the works related to asphalting and renovating the roads it is planned to allocate MDL 12 mln for the works meant to mark the carriageway and install road signs. MDL 2 mln will be allotted for creating green spaces in the road protection zones, MDL 16 mln – for maintaining the roads during the winter period and MDL 10 – for purchasing cars, special transport and equipment.
New Minister of Transport and Road Management Vasile Ursu stated on Wednesday, February 14, after the Government had approved the Programme for distributing the Road Fund’s resources, that these financial means are insufficient to solve the problems of all the national roads. Ursu reminded that the state plans to allocate this year higher sums for the refurbishing of roadways. Minister said that international tenders for selecting the designers and entrepreneurs which will carryi out projects intended to reconstruct the national roads will be announced soon.
According to prior statements of President Vladimir Voronin, about MDL 2 bln will be allocated this year for renovating roads in Moldova under the key projects aimed to build the national roads Chisinau–Leuseni, Chisinau-Comrat, Orhei-Rezina and Chisinau-Balti. Concurrently, it is expected to launch the project meant to build the highway Criva-Giurgiulesti, by attracting a strategic investor.
As specialists say, almost half of roads in Moldova are destroyed and should be repaired.
