Road accident kills one, injures three
A child has died and another three persons were seriously injured in a traffic accident occurred on May 15 in the evening, at around 22.00, on R 34 highway, at the entrance to Cucoara-Zarneati village in southern Moldova.
The victims were travelling in a cart which the driver of a Citroen car did not notice and hit at high speed. The cart was driven by Vitalie Pila, 32, native of Baurci-Moldoveni village, Cahul, while his family was in the carriage. As a result of the impact, Victor, his five-year-old son died immediately, while the coachman, his wife and their two-year-old daughter were severely injured.
The police say that the accident could have been avoided had the cart been equipped with lights, according to the requirements of the traffic regulations; during the nighttime hours, all the means of transport, including those with animal traction, must be equipped with lights to be observed by other participants in the traffic.
From the beginning of this year, 1099 road accidents, which resulted in 123 dead persons and another 1007 injured, occurred on Moldova’s roads.
