Rise in import price of gas will not result in immediate increase in tariffs for end-users

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon said that the increase in the price of the Russian gas from $253 to $287.6 per thousand cubic meters from October 1 will not lead to an immediate rise in the tariffs for end-users. As Info-Prim Neo reports, Dodon said that the purchase price of gas is yet to be fixed and will be announced by Gazprom by October 10. “Of course, these figures have been announced and we can only say what we already said and what Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanai said at Monday’s news conference – the gas prices for end-users will not be increased until this yearend. But it is hard to say whether we could keep the present charges after the New Year because the gas grows more expensive on the world markets,” Dodon said. The household users now pay 3,523 lei per thousand cubic meters of gas. Under the agreement signed by Moldova and Gazprom, the price of gas will be raised gradually and will reach the European level of 350 euros per thousand cubic meters until 2011. From July 1, 2008, when the price of Russian gas for Moldova was increased the last time, Moldova has paid $253, as against $213 per thousand cubic meters of gas earlier.
