The Eastern Partnership offers the Republic of Moldova enormous possibilities, beginning with the reform of the administrative bodies, the fight against corruption and the reform in the field of security, including the energy one. The program also brings the Moldovan people opportunities for developing education and culture. Such an opinion was stated by the Ambassador of Lithuania in Chisinau Rimantas Latakas.

In the public debate “Moldova after Vilnius and Riga: opportunities and challenges for the next destination”, which forms part of the series “Developing political culture by public debates”, staged by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova, the diplomat said the signing of the Association Agreement is an accomplishment of Moldova. However, any country is a living mechanism. That’s why there are always things on which work should be done and reforms that are to be implemented.

The ambassador also said that in the European integration process, everything is in the hands of Moldova and its people. That’s why the way to the EU depends on the reform implementation level. In the integration process, an important role is played by the improvement of the people’s lives and diminution of the EU’s disillusionment with Moldova.

Rimantas Latakas considers reforms can be done in the Republic of Moldova and the country’s European course can be continued. For this to happen, society should be united, while the country should clearly set the direction in which it goes, as Lithuania did when the largest part of the population was for integration into the EU.

The public debate entitled “Moldova after Vilnius and Riga: opportunities and challenges for the next destination” is the 56th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates” that are staged with the support of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
