In the countries that offer more rights and greater protection to homosexuals, there is an increased risk of molestation of minors by persons of the same sex. This is the conclusion of a study centering on the frequency of media coverage of cases of child molestation in a number of countries, including Moldova. The results of the research were presented by the Association “For Family” in a news conference at IPN.

Study author Paul Cameron, director of the Family Research Institute of Colorado, U.S., said they pursued the goal of comparing and verifying two views: the traditional view according to which more rights for homosexuals means their freer access to children and, implicitly, more cases of sexual molestation of minors, and the modern view shared by psychologists and sociologists, according to which there is no such connection.

The results of the study for Moldova show that 15 of 59 men who molested children (25%) were homosexuals. Paul Cameron said that Moldova is in the middle of the rankings by the protection and rights offered to homosexuals. In China, which does not recognize the rights of homosexuals, only 5% of the molesters were gay. In Italy and the UK, these figures stand at 46% and 52% respectively. The average for the EU is 50%. In Canada, 63% of the cases of molestation covered by the media were committed by homosexuals, while in Australia/New Zealand - 78%.

“These data do not prove, but suggest that the children in a society pay for the adoption of special rights for those with a homosexual orientation,” said Paul Cameron. He noted that according to the traditional view, homosexual molestation is more serious because there is a risk that the victims will also become homosexuals.

“If we consider that the lives of our children are more important than the rights of homosexuals, we must take these data into account. Surely, the societies have different systems of values. But these are often political decisions and the politicians may or may not reflect the values of society,” stated Paul Cameron.

The study was made between 2012 and 2014. Paul Cameron and his colleagues followed through Google News the media in the UK, Canada, the United States, China, Taiwan, Russia, Moldova and Italy, recording over 3,000 cases of child sexual abuse and determining the number of cases of homosexual molestation.
