The Government approved a decision to set up a Coordination Council for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance, IPN reports.
Among the main objectives of the Council will be to better protect the rights of consumers, in accordance with the legislation, to standardize the legal framework and to safeguard consumers’ interests as regards the compliance of nonfoods placed on the market.
The Council will also take steps to fight illegal trade in unsafe products, will analyze and suggest mechanisms for coordinating the activity of the market surveillance authorities, will take part in the elaboration of the normative and institutional framework on market control and will contribute to promoting the state policies on consumer protection.
The Coordination Council for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance will be managed by the Ministry of Economy. It will include representatives of market surveillance authorities and chiefs of public institutions dealing with consumer protection.
