Right to Know Days
The Center “Acces-info”, in cooperation with other nongovernmental organizations, is staging the eighth Right to Know Days event during September 26 and October 2, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the NGO.
The campaign themed “An active person is a well-informed person” is aimed at informing the people about the rights and methods of asking for official information, citizen participation methods and ways of appealing to court.
The campaign is also designed to sensitize the authorities and public institutions to the necessity of strictly observing the right to information, the freedom of expression and the right to take part in decision making, to ensure institutional transparency and involve the people in solving community problems and combating corruption.
Nine years ago, at a forum in Bulgaria’s Sofia, NGOs fighting for access to information and the freedom of expression from a number of countries, including Moldova, decided to proclaim September 28 as the Right to Know Day. The idea was backed by representatives of civil society from about 70 countries.
