Riga Summit is designed to strengthen Moldova’s relations with EU, PLR

At the Riga EaP Summit, Moldova is obliged to present a report showing that it achieved the objectives deriving from the Association Agreement because this event is designed to strengthen the relations between Moldova and the EU, reads a statement by the Liberal Reformist Party made public on April 8, IPN reports.

PLR deputy head Tatiana Potang, who read the statement, said the Riga Summit represents one of the most important political events for Moldova’s European destiny, but Moldova’s agenda at this forum is not yet known.

“The attempts to delay the justice sector reform, the reform of the prosecution service and the local public administration reform and to reintroduce censorship and limit the freedom of expression are actions that run counter to what the government intended to do in accordance with the provisions of the Association Agreement,” said Tatiana Potang, adding that an increasing number of state officials speak about the postponement of the submission of the application for joining the EU and this shows that the European course is abandoned little by little.

PLR chairman Ion Hadarca said the minority alliance, together with the Party of the Communists, represents a mechanism that will cause stagnation or the abandonment of the European course because Europe means in fact the combating of corruption, the fight against mafia and the punishment of those who commit thefts. The persons who stole billions of lei from banks haven’t been yet held accountable and the thief now cries: “catch the thief”.

This year the Eastern Partnership Summit will take place in Riga, on May 21-22.
