A sector officer of the Sarcova police station of Rezina district was found guilty of use of torture. According to a communiqué from the General Police Inspectorate, in February 2013 the police officer ill-treated a man from the village because he allegedly violated the right of ownership, IPN reports.
The policeman kicked and punched the man. According to the medical examination report, the victim suffered rib fractures. He complained to the Prosecutor’s Office, which started a criminal case over inhuman treatment and causing of medium bodily injury.
Recently, the police officer was sentenced to three years and six months in jail and banned from holding posts in the Ministry of the Interior for a period of four years.
