Revenues of Transnistria's Railways do not cover costs

A sum of 15 million rubles (19.7 million lei) was allocated from the budget of the breakaway republic for supporting the state-run Transnistria's Railways, whose revenues do not cover the costs. According to the company's director Serghei Martsinko, Transnistria's Railways is in a difficult situation, Info-Prim Neo's correspondent in Tiraspol reports. The volume of freight transported by trains this year has fallen by 77%. The volume of transit freight decreased even more. The charges for transporting goods through the local network rose by 9% from October 1, but the revenues from internal traffic constitute only 15% of the company's turnover. Serghei Martsinko said the volume of freight started to increase, but at a very low rate. For example, the incomes from transporting transit freight in November increased by 7% from October, but in the nine months to September decreased five times compared with the corresponding period last year. The new government of Moldova repeatedly stated that they will take steps to solve the Transnistrian dispute and deal with the problems of mutual interest, including the railways. “Both of the sides have sustained great losses, including financial, after the common railway system was separated years ago,” Moldovan officials said.
