Reunion of National Theaters this year will be in memoriam Ion Caramitru

This year’s, sixth edition of the Reunion of National Theaters will be devoted to film and theater actor and director Ion Caramitru, who died on September 5. The Reunion starts on September 15 and ends on September 26, IPN reports.

National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” director Petru Hadârcă told a news conference that this autumn started sadly. Namely Ion Caramitru designed the project “Reunion of National Theaters”. Following his death, a number of plays were replaced. He will yet remain in the memory of the public. His voice will be heard in the plays of the National Radiophonic Theater, especially in his last part at this theater, in the play “Somewhere in Transylvania”.

Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan assured that the Ministry of Culture will continue all the beneficial and valuable projects implemented in time and will make effort to develop further the Reunion of National Theaters in Chisinau and not to hinder the smooth running of the event by ensuring safe access to performances amid the pandemic.

Larisa Turea, literary secretary of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” that this year celebrates its 100th anniversary, voiced hope that the halls will be full as it is a rare occasion to see plays awarded not only in Bucharest, but all over the world.

Acting president of the Romanian Cultural Institute Mirel Taloș stated that after the great cultural events were cancelled last year, these return in 2021. The Reunion of National Theaters is one of the main events supported by the Institute at world level. Important financial and organizational resources are invested here.

Valeriu Matei, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau, said he is glad that the Reunion this year includes a wide variety of plays. The event will be followed by the Centenary of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” and the International Theater Festival FESTIS.

Romanian theater director Cristian Hadji-Culea noted he is happy that the Reunion became a habit in the world of the Romanian language theaters. The National Theater of Iasi will come with two great plays that are very different and he hopes these will find an appropriate place on the theater arena in Chisinau.

The event is organized by the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” of Moldova with the assistance of the Romanian Cultural Institute, the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau, the Ministry of Culture of Romania and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova.
