Reunification is a priority for Moldova, officials

The armed conflict on the Nistru was a forced and unjust one. The country’s reunification is a priority for Moldova. The integration into the European Union is another priority. Related statements were made by officials who rendered homage to the veterans in a meeting held to celebrate the Memory Day, Info-Prim Neo reports. Acting President Marian Lupu said the Moldovan state during its formation did not see only flowers and joy. “The Republic of Moldova is a state created by history and by God and we must honor its past. On this day I want to pay homage to the about 300 men who were killed in the war. They were those who contributed to building our state,” he said. He also said that the Moldovan authorities have to take two important steps in the near future – to reintegrate the country and to integrate it into the EU. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the bravest soldiers fell in that war. “It caused victims on both banks of the Nistru. Now that the spring came, the people have hopes and expectations. Regretfully, two decades ago the hopes were shadowed. We must reunify the country and offer the people rights, freedoms and prosperity,” he stated, assuring that effort will be made to meet the expectations of those who fought for the country’s integrity. After the meeting and the flower laying ceremony, the veterans went to a commemoration meal that was blessed by His Holiness Vladimir, the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and All Moldova.
