For the Orthodox Church, the Resurrection of Jesus Crist, the Son of God, is the feast of all feasts, an event that is long-awaited by all Christians, said Octavian Moșin, bishop of the Chisinau Church “Meeting of God”. Contacted by IPN for a comment, the priest said it is good for a Christian to spend these feast days in a joyful atmosphere.
“All the roads of a Christian lead to Resurrection. The living of the Resurrection moment each year, on Easter, represents pre-tasting of what we want to permanently experience in heaven, when we depart this life. Life on Earth is nothing else but preparation for eternal life. The most important day of the life of a Christian is not one that belongs to this century. It is the 40th day of the departure of this life, when one will meet with God face to face. That’s why Orthodoxy focuses a lot on this feast as everything gains meaning and all the efforts have sense in this life if they are combined with the virtue we should assume and grow in our souls,” stated Octavian Moșin.
He noted there are three virtues in Christianity: Faith, Hope and Love, with Love being the most important of these. “Being Christian means loving. Being Christian means sacrificed love. Jesus Christ allowed to be crucified, showing this sacrificed love to us. We see that everything is regained for the sake of Christ who dies and revives, showing that our home is in heaven and we should all go towards the Holy Resurrection. (…) Life has a natural start. We are born, but do not die as we become immortal and return to life for the sake of God,” he explained, adding everyone should be clam and full of light on Resurrection.
The Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter on April 28. On the eve, they hold the Canon of the Holy Sunday prior to the Feast of Resurrection in Orthodox churches. At midnight, the Christians are invited to take Holy Light. With lit candles, the priests and faithful walk around the church and then return inside to attend the Easter Vigil. At the end, the priests bless those attending by splashing them and the Easter dishes, mainly red painted eggs, Easter bread and cakes, with holy water.
