Resumption of talks in 5+2 format to be discussed in next informal meeting
The expectations that an announcement about the resumption of the official Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format will be made after the informal meeting held in Vienna did not come true. The subject will be discussed in the next informal meeting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communique from the Government, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov spoke about the obstacles hindering the free movement of persons and goods between the banks of the Nistru River, the difficulties experienced by the Moldovan schools teaching on the basis of Latin script in the Transnistrian region, and the situation in the Security Zone. The Moldovan delegation called on the Transnistrian authorities to take steps and solve the existing problems.
A separate subject for discussion was the recent conviction of Moldovan citizens by the Transnistrian authorities. The Moldovan delegation asked immediately releasing Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac and called upon the international partners to join efforts in order to achieve this objective.
There were also examined methods of stepping up the work of the confidence building groups. The Moldovan authorities reasserted their readiness to continue taking measures to help the Transnistrian companies to carry out economic activities.
The meeting in Vienna took place on February 14 and 15 and was the first in this format this year.
