Anticorruption officers and prosecutors seized 2.2 million lei, over €50,000, almost US$10,000 and other amounts in Canadian dollars, British pounds, Russian rubles, Ukrainian hrivnas and Romanian lei during the searches performed within the case of arranged tender contests in the health system, IPN reports.
In a communique, the National Anticorruption Center says that within the 69 searches carried out at the homes, offices and in the cars of the suspects, there were also found bank cards, drafts, copies of the purchase contracts, laptops, tablet PCs, computers and other devices carrying information. All the seized objects are to be examined by prosecution officers and prosecutors.
The anticorruption officers and prosecutors will also ask for the property statements of the arrested functionaries from the National Integrity Commission.
Sixteen persons were arrested within this case of corruption. Another five persons are investigated as suspects out of detention.
Five of the 16 persons will be taken today to the court, where arrest warrants will be issued against them. The other 11 persons will be escorted to the court tomorrow.
