About 98% of the population of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia voted in favor of Moldova joining the Russia – Belarus -Kazakhstan Customs Union. As many people voted for adopting a law on the local population’s right to external self-determination, if Moldova loses its sovereignty. The data were presented by the Central Election Commission of Gagauzia.
According to the information portal “Gagauzinfo”, 2.77% of the electors voted for integration into the European Union, IPN reports.
The central authorities consider that the referendums held on February 2 are illegal. Commenting on the reported voter turnout of 70%, secretary of the Central Election Commission of Moldova Andrei Volentir said this is manipulatory information as not more than 35% of the local voters ever took part in elections in Gagauzia.
