The improvement of the farmworker for the prevention and combating of domestic violence, ensuring of gender quality and improvement of the women’s access to justice are the results of the projects implemented within the Partnership for Good Governance during 2015-2017. The results were presented in a public event on October 7, IPN reports.
The Partnership for Good Governance in 2015-2017 is based on four European Union – and Council of Europe – funded projects that lay emphasis on: improvement of electoral processes; combating and prevention of discrimination; consolidation of the respect for human rights in the process of implementing the digital agenda; consolidation of the legal system and support for the Lawyers Union of the Republic of Moldova.
EU/CoE programs coordinator Arkadi Sytne noted that the goal of these programs is to ensure good governance in the Eastern Partnership countries and to implement good European practices in the given states. In the justice sector, the Council of Europe provided assistance in working out the new communication strategy and plan of action and contributed to training the personnel in the field of European standards on non-discrimination.
Aneil Singh, division head at the EU Delegation to Moldova, said the observance of human rights, discrimination fighting and implementation of the digital platform are very important. “I think justice is a central piece of our efforts and is an area with many challenges. The decision not to offer €20 million financing to the justice sector of Moldova was due to the fact that the justice sector strategy hasn’t been implemented well. We want to be sure that the money will not be spent without results,” stated Aneil Singh
According to the national coordinator of the Partnership for Good Governance on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Sergiu Mironov, the projects are aimed at supporting the initiatives launched at the national level and at adjusting the national legislation and practices to the European standards. The made efforts turn gradually into noticeable results for an increasing number of end-users.
The projects are 90% financed by the EU and 10% co-financed by the CoE. Their total budget is of €2.4 million.
