The results of the investigation carried out at the Chisinau Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco” showed that the facts reported by the media, when doctors use a household drill to perform an operation, are a consequence of an internal conflict that the hospital’s administration was unable to resolve. Such a conclusion was reached by the commission for investigating the use of unauthorized instruments to perform surgeries at “Valentin Ignatenco” Hospital that was constituted by the Health Division of the Chisinau Municipal Hospital, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Health, the hospital’s traumatology and orthopedics sections are outfitted with the equipment needed to perform operations, while the surgery performed with industrial drills could be done with proper instruments available in the surgery block.
It was established that the doctors allowed deviations as they involved the nurse in the surgery. Also, the doctors didn’t get the written consent of the relatives for filming and posting the video recordings on social networking sites, while the intraoperatory complications as regards the perforation of the patient’s thorax weren’t confirmed.
According to the Ministry of Health, the involvement of the nurse in the operation and the use of non-sterile medical instruments or without respecting the aseptic rules represent very serious deviations. The incident is the fault of the hospital’s administration and the surgeons.
Based on the presented materials, the director of the Chisinau Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco” was penalized with severe reprimand.
