Results of Interior Ministry’s demilitarization will be noticeable early next year
The results of the reform and demilitarization of the Ministry of the Interior will become evident at the start of 2012. Related statements were made Monday in a roundtable meeting involving representatives of ministries and civil society, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Daniela Morari, division head at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said it is to be decided if the carabineer troops will be managed by the Ministry of the Interior and if there will be created two departments - police and carabineer. The carabineers will have the exclusive task of maintaining public order. They will be employed on contract, according to their professionalism.
George Saghin, head of the Association for Dialogue-Cooperation, said the debates centered on the necessity of community police in Moldova. Another subject discussed was the need to make the posts of deputy minister and Police Department head incompatible. “This would prevent the politicization of this post (of Police Department head). Only this way will police fulfill their duty regardless of the political situation,” said Leonid Litra, deputy head of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”.
The participants in the meeting stressed the necessity of transferring the Border Guards Service to the Ministry of the Interior so as to ensure the efficiency of the integrated border management process and the fulfillment of Moldova’s obligations as regards migration.
