Respiratory infections are most spread infections in Moldova

The acute respiratory infections, including the pneumonias, tuberculosis and acute stomach infections, mainly in children, and hepatites B and C are the most spread infectious diseases in Moldova. Among the respiratory infections, the acute pneumonias and bronchopneumonias have significantly increased in number, Info-Prim Neo reports. Lecturer Valeriu Pantea, deputy head of the National Public Health Center, said that compared with last year the number of cases of pneumonia and bronchopneumonia rose from 24,200 to 35,700. This is an increase of about 1.5 times. The cases of tuberculosis also increased in number. Until now, there have been detected 2,666 cases, as against 2,623 last year. The number of rotavirus infections that affect especially children under five rose 1.4 times to 729 cases this year, as opposed to 498 last year. Asked why the number of cases of certain diseases increased even if they are treated free, Valeriu Pantea said the people neglect doctors’ recommendations about respiratory infections and pneumonias and show irresponsibility towards their health. However, following the implementation of the national immunization program, the country made progress in preventing such diseases as diphtheria and measles. But the situation is different in Transnistria, where there were identified 11 cases of measles. No cases of such a disease were recorded on the right bank of the Nistru. Of the 105 diseases included in the nomenclature of infectious diseases, 17 types increased in number, 44 tipes remained stable in number (zero cases), while another 44 types decreased in number. Such results are mainly due to the effort and the prevention and prophylaxis activities carried out by the State Public Health Supervision Service.
