Lawmakers from 16 countries adopted a Resolution of support for the European integration and the promotion of sustainable development in the region of the Central European Initiative (CEI). The document was carried at the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the ICE Parliamentary Dimension that was held in Chisinau, IPN reports.
Through the Resolution, the participants in the meeting underlined the relevance of a better defined framework of interests of the CEI member states and the importance of bringing together the EU member states and the states that aspire to become EU members. “Regional cooperation within the CEI is essential for ensuring integrated connectivity between the European Union and its partners from the Eastern neighborhood, promoting the European integration process as the only way to stability and security,” says the Resolution.
The participants in the meeting reiterated the readiness to combine forces to offer a new political impulse to the CEI. It was proposed creating a Convention for Strengthening the Central European Initiative in the form of an ad-hoc working group.
Moldova’s Parliament hosted the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the ICE Parliamentary Dimension given that Moldova holds the CEI Presidency that will be taken over by Albania in 2024.
The Central European Initiative or CEI is the largest and oldest forum of regional cooperation in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe. Moldova joined the CEI in 1996.
