Resolution adopted by protesters on July 1 handed over to Council of Europe Secretary General

The resolution that was adopted at the protests staged in central Chisinau on July 1 was transmitted to the Secretary General Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu wrote on Facebook. The politician is in Brussels on a visit, together with the leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase and the head of the Liberal Democratic Party Viorel Ciubotaru, IPN reports.

Maia Sandu said they had an important discussion with Thorbjørn Jagland where they spoke about the government’s intention to mislead the international partners as if the elections were invalidated because of the legislation. “The politically subdued institutions are the fundamental problem. Mister Thorbjørn Jagland showed an increased interest in the current crisis in the Republic of Moldova, underlining the importance of respecting the principles of democracy and the rule of law in a European country,” wrote the politician.

The people who took part in the protest mounted in the Great National Assembly Square on July 1 adopted a resolution by which they demanded to validate the Chisinau early local elections, to annul the mixed electoral system and to hold accountable the judges who decided to invalidate the elections. The document says that if the government does not take immediate measures to fulfil the demands during the current session of Parliament, peaceful civil disobedience actions will be taken. A General Assembly of Citizens from the country and the diaspora was scheduled for August 26, 2018.
