Resignations of four judges, including Ion Pleșca, accepted

The Superior Council of Magistracy accepted the resignations tendered by judges Ion Pleșca and Iurie Melinteanu of the Chisinau City Appeals Court, Alexandru Gheorghieș from the post of president of the Bălți City Appeals Court and Maria Iftodi from the post of judge of the Edineț Town Court, IPN reports.

The Council on April 16 was to also examine the resignations handed over by judges Valeriu Arhip of the Strășeni Town Court and Gennady Lysyi and Ion Bulhac of the Chisinau City Appeals Court, but the judges asked for a delay.

Anatol Pahopol of the Chisinau City Appeals Court withdrew his resignation.

In the Council’s meeting, Minister of Justice Fadei Nagachevski said the state budget will incur particular costs following the resignation of judges. To deal with such a consequence, the Commission for Exceptional Situations will be issued with a bill that will regulate the payment of benefit in such cases. The intention is to make sure the state budget does not incur excessive costs and the money is used to contain the pandemic.
