The resignation submitted by Oleg Budza, the president of the National Union Confederation CNSM, will be examined by the Confederal Committee on November 11, IPN learned from CNSM vice president Petru Chiriac.
However, Chiriac has doubts the resignation will be accepted, because there is a complaint from the Education Union Federation alleging “embezzlement through illegal dealings with loans”.
“The fact that he’s tendered his resignation doesn’t mean it’s over (…) He wants to step down, but there are some issues that need to be sorted out first, issues that have to do with union assets”, said Petru Chiriac, referring to reports that Budza engaged in shady transactions with the disgraced banker-turned-politician Ilan Shor.
“(Budza) is accused of many unpleasant things, financial ones, and he must answer for them”, stated Chiriac.
Oleg Budza, who has held the position since 2009, could not be reached for a comment as his phone was not available.
A report produced in June by a Parliament’s inquiry commission into the privatization of union property found Ilan Shor to be the biggest beneficiary, with a company affiliated to the oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc also being involved. It’s believed, among other things, that Budza put up union property as collateral enabling Shor to defraud his own banks.
