Residents of Transnistria allowed to have multiple citizenship
The unrecognized supreme soviet of the breakaway Moldovan province of Transnistria approved the right of the region’s population to hold two or more citizenships.
According to www.news.info, the so-called legislative body of Transnistria made several amendments to the law on citizenship.
The author of the amendments, Andrei Sipcenko stated that they are necessary in relation with the fact that Transnistria is not a recognized state, and because of the increased migration tendency.
At present, the residents of the breakaway region have the right to hold dual citizenship only.
According to a study conducted by a Russian-Transnistrian Analysis Centre, 60.2% of region’s inhabitants are willing to obtain the Russian citizenship, 27.3% - Ukrainian, 9.9% - Moldovan, 1.7% - Romanian, 0.9% - Polish citizenship.
