Mayoral elections will be held in Tîrnova village of Dondușeni district and in Nucăreni village of Telenești district on September 6, as a decision taken by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on June 9 provides.
In both of the cases, the seats of mayor were vacated by the elected candidates for the reason that they were elected as heads of Dondușeni and, respectively, of Telenești districts, IPN reports.
CEC president Dorin Cimil said they considered the opportunity of holding the local elections in the two villages simultaneously with the presidential elections of this November, but they determined that a number of aspects related to the securing of voters and of the functionaries involved in the electoral process cannot be guaranteed. The holding of two types of elections the same day creates a number of impediments, including from logistical viewpoint.
Earlier, the CEC decided that new local elections in the two villages will take place on May 17 this year, but the elections were put off because a state of emergency was declared.
For these elections, the CEC approved an expenditure estimate of 1.310 million lei.
