Residential institution graduates experience difficulties in finding employment

The most serious problems faced by the graduates of residential institutions are the lack of dwelling and the lack of a job. Specialists say the social integration process becomes difficult owing to the dependence on social services. Angela Ganea, division head at the Chisinau Child Rights Protection Division, has told Info-Prim Neo that every graduate is enrolled to college and vocational school and then they look for employment, but the process is difficult as these young people are dependent on social services. “This happens because they lack individuality. There are employment concessions for these young people, but they do not manage to keep their job. The children who became dependent or users of social services encounter difficulties because they did not see a model in the family. They find it difficult to obey certain rules,” stated Angela Ganea. Anther problem is the lack of a place to stay. The authorities can provide them only temporary accommodation, through NGOs. “Regretfully, social apartments are not built and a lot of problems appear in these children’s lives,” said Angela Ganea. According to a study made by the division, the largest part of boarding school graduates continue their studies, while others are unskilled workers and technical personnel. Some of them become unemployed. As to the areas of activity, most of them work in trade and public food, while others in constructions and communications. There are persons who find work in industry and the energy sector or even education and science. The social award or merit award, the child support or allowance for losing the supporting person represent additional sources of incomes. Asked what problems they faced after graduation, the respondents said that they didn’t know there to study and where to live. They didn’t have money and there was nobody to support them. Some of those surveyed said there were situations when they didn’t have what to eat. A number of 57 residential institution graduates were in the municipality of Chisinau in 2012. It is projected that this figure will decrease by 17 in 2013.
