Rescuers take four persons out of elevator of Chisinau apartment building

Rescuers took four persons out of the elevator of an apartment building located on Moscova Blvd in Chisinau. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the elevator got stuck on the third floor after it fell from an upper floor. However, the administration of the specialized municipal enterprise “Liftservice” said that form technical viewpoint, it is impossible for an elevator to fall down, IPN reports.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, “Liftservice” director Petru Budurin said that even if the elevator is not new, it is functional. “Technically, it is imposable for the elevator to fall from height. The elevator can go down 5-10 centimeters from the level of the floor, but never falls. It simply stopped between the third and fourth floors. To get the people out, the elevator needs to be taken to a floor, the third or the fourth one, for the doors to be opened. The elevator was too heavy and got stuck. Such cases happen often. Or the people can also push different buttons in the elevator and similar situations occur,” stated Petru Budurin.

The director noted that the rescuers arrived at the scene earlier than the enterprise’s specialists and forced the doors. A commission was set up to examine the situation and the doors are being repaired. “We have monthly, half-yearly and yearly technical overhauls. We have a special division that deals with such works as it goes to citizens’ security. If something goes wrong, we do not allow using the elevator. The oldest elevators are 49 years, but the guarantee period is 25 years. We are making effort to repair and maintain them,” said Petru Budurin.

The rescuers pulled out two men and two women. They were unhurt. The cause and circumstances of the accident are to be found out.
