Two fishermen fell through the ice of the lake in "La Izvor" Park. The incident occurred after the first one fell into the water, and the other, trying to save him, also broke through the ice. This is the scenario of a rescue simulation, during which emergency responders demonstrated proper reaction techniques in case of falling through ice, IPN reports.
According to the scenario, the accident was noticed by lifeguards, who quickly intervened to recover the individuals and bring them to shore. Likewise, SMURD employees demonstrated first aid maneuvers for the victims.
In this context, employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) warn citizens that fragile ice on the surface of lakes and rivers presents a danger, especially when air temperatures fluctuate between minus and plus degrees. For the ice layer to be rigid, its thickness must be at least 10 cm.
Rescue teams urge ice fishing enthusiasts: not to drill multiple holes around them, to maintain a minimum distance of 3 meters from each other, to leave the area immediately if water starts flowing from the drilled hole, to be equipped with rescue gear, including a 15-20 meter rope with a 400-500 gram weight at the end.
In case of falling through the ice, rescuers advise: stay calm and try to crawl onto the ice, keeping arms spread wide, place hands on the edge of the ice and roll to get to shore, to rescue a fallen person, approach crawling and extend a branch, metal rod, or any sturdy object they can grab onto to be pulled out.
Medical recommendations after rescue: the victim should be taken to a warm room immediately, their wet clothes must be changed as soon as possible, the victim should be wrapped in a warm blanket and given hot drinks, but no alcohol.
Emergency response: IGSU urges citizens to immediately call 112 if they see someone fall through the ice.
According to IGSU data, since the beginning of 2025, five people have lost their lives in the country's water basins.
