Republican Clinic Hospital rejects allegations of causing an infant’s death

The administrations of the Republican Clinic Hospital (RCH) and the Heart Surgery Center (HSC) reject the allegations against them made by “Moldova mea” association’s head Fiodor Ghelici and Ilie Cazac, father of a five-month child who died in hospital, according to them, because the medical institutions do not have electric generators. HSC director, doctor habilitate Anatol Ciubotaru, and RCH chief-doctor Mihai Ous stated Wednesday November 29 at a press conference a number of media bodies “spread biased and incorrect information” as concerns this topic and recommended “Moldova mea” association to stop promoting its own interests using the tragedy of the Cazac family. They will sue Ghelici for libel. They expressed their deep regret towards the child’s parents, but mentioned they knew earlier the baby will not have chances to survive. Anatol Cibotaru stated, in compliance with the official medical documents, during the power cuts, which take place due to technical glitches, the electric ventilation device was immediately replaced with the pneumatic control device, specially designed for such situations, fact that excluded the negative impact on the child’s condition. According to the source, the decease that happened in three days after the operation was a consequence of the congenital heart malformations. Doctors assert that at the most 15% is the rate of post-operation survival for such patients. The heads of the two institutions refuted the allegations that the RCH has no power generator. They assert that in the operation and intensive care rooms there are generators, but at that moment it was not necessary to connect them because there were modern pneumatic control devices, which operate eight hours’ time due to the accumulators that are more efficient. Yet, they recognized the hospital has no power generator for the entire building, which would supply the stairs, rooms, lifts with power, but they assert this fact does not affect the patients’ health condition. According to data presented by the doctors, about 700 children are annually born with such heart malformations in Moldova, and only 150–200 of them are operated, the rest of them die.
