The ‘Maidan’ has full control over the situation in Kiev, said MP Andrei Parubii, commander of the protesters’ self-defense committee, IPN reports, quoting the opposition newspaper “Ukrainian truth”.
Parubii said that the whole governmental quarter was taken under control and organized patrols of protesters are supervising the Supreme Rada, the Government and the presidential administration. The protesters started by themselves to investigate the crimes committed during the violent clashes and asked the prosecutor general of Ukraine to take legal action against a number of Kiev functionaries.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Rada held a meeting in the absence of Speaker Vladimir Rybak, who asked delegating his powers to another person as he is ill. First Deputy Speaker Igor Kaletnik was also absent, but the reasons are not known.
The Ukrainian press reported that President Viktor Yanukovych left for Harkov to take part in a congress of deputies of all the levels from Eastern Ukraine, where the Party of Regions enjoys the greatest support. The protesters demand that Yanukovych should resign immediately and a member of the Supreme Rada already submitted a relevant legislative initiative.
According to Unian, one of the mediators of the talks between the head of state and the protesters, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski told a news conference in Warsaw that the peace deal signed in Kiev on Friday offers no guarantee to Yanukovych.
