Representatives of parliamentary groups fail to find solution on President election
The January 9 meeting of the parliamentary groups of the Alliance for European Integration and the Communist Party ended with no result. The lawmakers could not find a solution to elect the head of state. After the meeting, the MPs said it is a good start, but they should ponder over what they discussed and will resume the dialogue today, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The PLDM’s representative Tudor Deliu said the meeting was a kind of novelty. “The parliamentary parties finally came together at the negotiating table to discuss solutions. A number of solutions were identified, but we cannot yet present a common viewpoint,” said the MP. As to deadline for submitting applications for the presidency, Tudor Deliu said the situation can change over an hour.
The leader of the Democratic parliamentary group Dumitru Diacov stressed that this dialogue is an important step. “It won’t be an easy discussion. Many of the ideas stated earlier were repeated, but we tried to convince our colleagues to take part in the election of the head of state as an exercise of national salvation. It was a sincere discussion. Everyone expressed their opinions. A kind of progress was made and we maybe will manage to identify positions to jointly take part in the elections,” he stated. He also said that the problem does not reside in the candidates, but in the principles proposed as a basis for electing the head of state.
The leader of the Liberal faction Ion Hadirca said that they managed to discuss a wide range of secondary problems, but the identification of a candidate for the presidency remained the main one. “We decided to negotiate the resumption of the talks on the reformation of certain constitutional norms that have been an impediment to solving the political crisis,” said the Liberal.
Communist MP Iurie Muntean said the parties will formulate new proposals that will be discussed at the next meeting. He stated that the tone of the discussions gives reasons for optimism.
The representatives of the parliamentary groups met for the first time since the election date of set. Until now the Communists said they were ready to negotiate only with every party separately, not with the Alliance for European Integration that they do not recognize.
The deadline for submitting applications for the January 15 presidential elections is January 12.
