Representatives of the Atlantic Council welcomed the Moldovan government’s determination to do the necessary reforms. “We do not daily see governments ready to make the changes needed in the country,” these said in a dialogue with the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Vlad Plahotniuc, who is paying a working visit to the Unites States, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the PDM.
Vlad Plahotniuc was invited by the Atlantic Council to take part in the organization’s most important event of the year - Distinguished Leadership Awards that honors leaders in politics, business, arts and humanitarian activities who intensely promote the relations between Europe and the U.S.
While in the United States, Vlad Plahotniuc, as the executive coordinator of the Council of the ruling Alliance, will have meetings with a number of high-ranking officials of the U.S. Administration and with opinion leaders and representatives of the business community interested in investing in our country.
The first meeting took place in Washington, where Vlad Plahotniuc discussed the economic and reform agendas of the Government of Moldova with experts of the Atlantic Council. “The governing coalition is
solid and is determined to assume the difficult reforms we have to do,” stated Vlad Plahotniuc. He gave as example the results achieved by the Moldovan government in the economic area during the last two months, noting that the amounts collected by the customs and fiscal authorities even trebled in parts.
Asked about his view on Moldova’s development during the next two years, Vlad Plahotniuc said: “We want to ensure economic and financial stability in the country by agreeing a new program with the International Monetary Fund and to root out corruption by ensuring efficient and independent justice.”
The working session lasted for several hours. Among the participating experts of the Atlantic Council were senior fellow at the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center Anders Aslund, Director of the Eurasian Energy Futures David Koranyi and Director of the Global Business and Economics Program Andrea Montanino.
Vlad Plahotniuc also discussed with opinion leaders and analysts, representatives of centers and institutes involved in the foreign policy of the U.S.
“We do not daily see governments ready to make the changes needed in the country. Here, in the U.S., there are funds and companies that follow the progress made by the Republic of Moldova and want to invest. You will get more support if you implement the Association Agreement with the EU, as it happened in the case of Bulgaria and Romania,” said the representatives of the Atlantic Council.
According to the press release of the PDM, the Atlantic Council is one of the most famous and influential think tanks in the U.S. It was founded in 1961 to provide expertise and advice on international affairs, including for representatives of the U.S. Administration and Congress.
