Reporting identity document being lost or stolen is free of charge

Reporting an identity document being lost or stolen is a free of charge public service, unless this is a passport, in which case a 20 lei fee is charged, the Public Services Agency said in response to an IPN inquiry for information.

The person who has lost an identity document must submit an application for obtaining a new document and a declaration of loss at any identity document issuing service, including at the multifunctional centers of the Public Services Agency, and abroad at diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Moldova. The declaration can be submitted simultaneously with the application for a new document.

If the applicant has found the lost document in the meantime, he or she may request that its validity be restored, provided that a replacement hasn’t been issued already.

Those who lost an ID card are no longer required to present civil status documents if no changes have occurred.

The fee for a replacement ranges from 130 to 650 lei, and in case of a passport from 650 to 2,080 lei, depending on the processing times.
