Report on review of European Neighborhood Policy adopted

The European Parliament adopted the report on the review of the European Neighborhood Policy in its plenary session in Strasbourg on July 9. The final report contains the amendments proposed by MEP Andi Cristea, who is the rapporteur on behalf of the S&D Group, concerning the necessity of offering the European perspective to the states from the Eastern Neighborhood, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the MEP’s team.

“Paragraph 20 contains an ambitious text that we proposed, regarding the provision of the European perspective to the Eastern Partnership countries that fulfill the necessary conditions, in accordance with article 49 of the EU Treaty. I think first of all about Moldova. The amendments we promoted were fully adopted, either directly or through the negotiated compromise amendments,” said the Romanian MEP.

Speaking about the current situation in Moldova, Andi Cristea said he is preoccupied about the length of the negotiations on the formation of a government with a powerful and definite majority, noting such an executive will be the only one able to meet people’s lawful expectations for a better life and the reform expectations of Brussels.

According to the European official, the Moldovan political leaders must act swiftly with wisdom and courage and must put the country’s interests above party vainglory. The political elite of Moldova must regain people’s confidence affected by scandals, such as that from the banking system, and can do this based on a coherent plan of reforms, which is the only safe way to prosperity and stability.
