A repaired portion of the bridge located on Mihai Viteazul St was reopened to vehicle traffic after rehabilitation works that lasted for two years. Officials of the General Urban Mobility Division have told IPN that today traffic can move on one lane, in one direction, but from tomorrow both directions will be available as the fencing and securing works are to be completed.
“Between September 5 and December 31, vehicle traffic on the bridge on Mihai Viteazul St will be possible in both directions, on the first and second lanes, in the direction of travel towards Petricani St, according to the road traffic organization scheme coordinated with the General Urban Mobility Division and the National Public Security Inspectorate,” says an order signed by deputy mayor of Chisinau municipality Ilie Ceban.
This also says that the Chisinau Electric Transport Company will ensure the transfer of the trolleybus contact network on the bridge on Mihai Viteazul St to the second lane, the direction of travel towards Buiucani district.
The works began in September 2022 on the lower part of the bridge by reinforcing the columns. On the upper part of the bridge, works were carried out to temporarily relocate the pillars of the contact network and the overhangs were repaired. The project includes the rehabilitation of all the old elements of the bridge way.
A sum of 108 million lei was allocated for the given repair works.
