Repair of Chisinau schools will cost by about 1 million lei more than last year
A sum of 21.3 million lei will be allocated from the Chisinau budget this year for repairing the kindergartens and schools. The repair works in many of the institutions have already started, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Gheorghe Suceveanu, the extensive repair warrant includes the repair of roofs in 48 institutions (6.8 million lei), repair of the sanitary equipment and heating systems in 52 schools and kindergartens (7.1 million lei), replacement of the electrics in 13 institutions (764,000 lei), cleaning and hydraulic testing of the heating systems in 316 institutions.
General construction works will be carried out in 46 education institutions. The facades will be finished, while the windows and doors changed or repaired (6.3 million lei).
Though this year the schools will receive by about 1 million lei more than last year, the sum is too low for carrying out all the necessary repair works, officials of the education division say.
“We cannot say that these are extensive repair works,” said Gheorghe Suceveanu. “In fact, some of the works will be finished, while some of the schools repaired cosmetically. The municipality does not have money for consistent repair works. We rather mend that reconstruct.”
Only 67 (46%) of the 145 schools will be extensively repaired. Repair works will be performed in 47 (38%) of the 123 kindergarteners and crèches.
“Even if we are in midsummer, the proper repair works have not yet started. The General Division of Education, Youth and Sport is preparing the necessary documenters. Under the legislation, the contractors that will carry out the works are selected by public tender contests,” Gheorghe Suceveanu said.
He added that only the Education Division of Rascani district managed to sign all the necessary contracts. In Ciocana district, there were signed 17 contracts, while in Buiucani district – 5 contracts. The General Division of Education works on three such contracts. In Botanica and Centru districts, the persons in charge are preparing the expenditure estimates needed for public tender contests.
During the last years, the delays of the kind became a rule because the Chisinau Municipal Council approves the sums needed for extensive repair with delay and because the tender contests are organized with difficulty and during long periods of time.
However, the head of the General Division of Education Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb is optimistic. She said that the organization of the tender contests is delayed every year, but the education process was never affected. “By September 1, the municipal education institutions are always ready for the new school year,” she said.
