The leader of the Our Party Renato Usatyi said the arrest warrant against him was annulled by prosecutors after he returned to Moldova on June 16 to obtain the dropping of the criminal cases fabricated against him, IPN reports.
According to the politician, even if the arrest warrant was annulled, the criminal cases started against him over smuggling and proxy murder weren’t dropped.
He noted he supports the formed parliamentary coalition and during the next few days will start to help it by submitting legislative proposals. In the immediate period, her will go to districts to meet and discuss with members of the party and with people. “We start our agenda and want to show that our country not only survived, but will even develop,” stated Renato Usatyi.
On June 16, Renato Usatyi was arrested at the Sculeni customs post by officers of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases. He was escorted to the institution’s head office and this fact was confirmed by the Police in a press release. After over four hours, he was released on condition he will present himself whenever he is summoned by prospectors. In front of the institution, the politician was awaited by members of the Our Party and supporters.
The party’s vice president Elena Gritsko called on Minister of the Interior Andrei Năstase to be objective in his decisions concerning Renato Usatyi and other politically persecuted persons.
In a comment on a social networking site, Prime Minister Maia Sandu said the annulment of the arrest warrant against Renato Usatyi generates serious questions.
“By this decision, the prosecutors either admit that the case was fabricated by political order and we then should now by whose order and those who fulfilled such instructions should resign and answer for this, or the legality of today’s decision is doubtful. In this case, the responsible prosecutors should be held accountable,” wrote Maia Sandu.
Renato Usatyi left Moldova in September 2016. In October the same year the Centru district court of Chisinau issued an arrested warrant against him and he was later put on the wanted list.
