Renato Usatyi released from arrest

The leader of the Political Party “Our Party” Renato Usatyi, who is the mayor of Balti municipality, was set free from arrest by the Centru Court on October 25. The Court rejected the prosecutors’ request to place Usatyi under arrest for 30 days, IPN reports.

In the hearing and before the crowd that gathered at the Centru Court, Renato Usatyi said his arrest is a sign that the current government is in agony and does not know what to do. His demands and the demands of the protesters he leads, concerning the resignation of the head of state and the dismissal of the heads of the Central Election Commission, the National Anticorruption Center and the Prosecutor General’s Office, remain unchanged.

“We need another government, another President. We need an administration that would not divide us into those of the right and those of the left, into Moldovans, Romanians, Russians, ours and yours. We are all citizens of Moldova and we will struggle until all our demands are satisfied,” stated Renato Usatyi.

Renato Usatyi was arrested by officers of the Security and Intelligence Service at the Chisinau airport, upon his return from Russia, on October 23. He is suspected of organizing the illegal wiretapping of telephone conversations between ex-Premier Vlad Filat and the current mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor.
