President Nicolae Timofti could be dismissed in a special sitting of Parliament that will be held behind closed doors on January 14, starting at 2pm, the leader of the “Our Party” (PPPN) Renato Usatyi said in a protest mounted in front of the Parliament Building, IPN reports.
The leader of the PPPN noted that effort is now made to convince MPs to vote for the dismissal of President Nicolae Timofti. If the head of state is removed, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu will become acting President and he will nominate Vlad Plahotniuc for premiership.
Renato Usatyi said that to avoid this scenario, large-scale protests will be staged and columns of people will block a possible sitting to invest the Government. “A large protest must be organized to show that the people want early parliamentary elections,” he stated.
The supporters of the PPPN, led by Renato Usatyi, have protested in front of the Parliament Building against the repeated designation of Vlad Plahotniuc as a candidate for premiership. The protesters also expressed their support for the head of state, chanting “Down with Plahotniuc”. The organizers said the protesters will remain near the Parliament Building until 2pm, when the closed sitting of the legislative body is expected to start.
The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon also mounted the stage set up in front of the Parliament Building. He reiterated that the Socialists will stage a large protest on January 16 to demand early legislative elections.
