Renato Usatyi, a former mayor of Balti and a presidential election candidate, is labeled as “obedient servant of the regime”. Activist Pavel Grigorchuk said that Usatyi organized a number of crimes and, in order to avoid imprisonment, he accepts the power game.
“Usatyi is an instrument of the regime and he no longer belongs to himself. He is an element that attracts the protesting electorate, fragmenting it, and that prevents the opposition from uniting. This is his role. Maia Sandu protects Usatyi, thus gaining a devoted servant,” Grigorchuk said in a news conference hosted by IPN.
According to the activist, Moldova is facing a serious political crisis that threatens democracy and the rule of law. Renato Usatyi is exempt from the punishment he deserves, being protected by high-ranking officials.
Pavel Grigorciuc also said that Renato Usatyi organized an attack on businessman German Gorbuntsov and killed two of his accomplices, whom he considered a threat. “Usatyi is a criminal who should be sentenced to life imprisonment for organizing the attack and at least two murders, but he is protected by the authorities themselves,” he added.
The attempt on German Gorbuntsov was organized in London in 2012. Pavel Grigorchuk said that he studied the materials of the case and saw that Usatyi’s guilt is proven. However, instead of being tried, Usatyi was released from criminal liability.
Only three months later, the judge who dropped the charges against Usatyi, was promoted to a higher position. “An ordinary prosecutor, three months after the charges of attempted assassination of Gorbuntsov against Usatyi were dropped, becomes the second most important person in the Prosecutor’s Office controlled by Maia Sandu,” said Pavel Grigorchuk.
By the time the news article was broadcast, neither Renato Usatyi nor his electoral staff commented on the accusations made by Pavel Grigorchuk.
