Renato Usatyi: CC must review its decision concerning presidential elections

The Constitutional Court (CC) must review its decision concerning the election of the head of state or we will respond with protests, the leader of the “Our Party” Renato Usatyi said in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

“We will stage protests for the CC president Alexandru Tanase so that he understands that he must not play with the people. The March 4 decision represents disrespect for the people. I call on Tanase to review this decision,” stated Renato Usatyi.

The leader of the “Our Party” is also dissatisfied with the fact that the CC kept the age limit of 40 years for those who want to run for the presidency. “If they restored the old provisions concerning the election of the President, they should have also restored the age limit of 35 years,” said the politician.

Renato Usatyi considers the CC took that decision by order of Vladimir Plahotniuc and this favors the leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon. “The CC’s decision was taken on the instructions of Plahotniuc, who wanted to pave the way for Dodon to the presidency,” he stated.

On March 4, 2016, the Constitutional Court ruled that the amendments made in 2000 to the Constitution’s article concerning the election of the President of Moldova are unconstitutional.
