Renato Usatyi about CC decision concerning President’s decree

The leader of Our Party Renato Usatyi said that if President Maia Sandu’s decision to field Natalia Gavriliţa for Prime Minister the second time is declared unconstitutional, such politicians as PPPDA president Andrei Năstase and the Socialist leader Igor Dodon will stand to gain, IPN reports.

According to him, if the candidate is proposed by the President, the President decides if this is suitable or not for the post of Prime Minister. The President is not obliged to propose the candidate provided by a formal parliamentary majority. “If so, why is a President needed? They can propose this themselves,” the politician stated on Facebook Live.

The Constitutional Court on February 16 rejected the request to suspend the effect of the President’s decree of February 11 by which the candidate for Prime Minister was nominated, but set the date of the public meeting in which the application submitted by the Socialist MPs will be examined. This will take place on February 23, starting at 10am.
