Renato Usatîi resigns as mayor of Bălți, intends to create new party

Renato Usatîi announced that he will resign as the mayor of the municipality of Bălți because he is dissatisfied with the results achieved by the Bloc “Renato Usatîi” in the northern capital of the Republic of Moldova in the snap parliamentary elections of July 11. The deputy mayors and municipal councilors of Our Party that is led by Renato Usatîi will serve for the local public administration until November 21, when local elections are to be held in the municipality. Renato Usatîi made the announcements in a meeting with inhabitants of Bălți city in the evening of September 2, IPN reports.

In the meeting, Renato Usatîi presented a progress report covering the period of his mayoralty. Many of the locals asked him not to leave the local public administration, but the politician said that he will not change his mind.

“I never dreamt of posts. I dreamt of better living conditions for the ordinary people in our country. I never attended professional deceiving courses. I will tell the truth. I will not lead a life that would suit someone. Most of the residents of Bălți voted for something else. I do not want to impose my view,” stated Renato Usatîi.

He noted he will continue to lead an active life and intends to create another party and new local organizations and other mayors of Our Party also intend to quit.

A woman from Bălți who works at a local market said that she was busy at work and with her two children and grandmother who is confined to a wheelchair and was unable to go and vote on July 11. “It happens that someone does not find time to vote and then complains that they live badly,” Renato Usatîi stated in reply.

Another woman from the city said the results of the snap parliamentary elections in Bălți are as they are because “someone made a mistake”. “I ask you to stay. You revived the city, but the people betrayed you, regrettably,” noted the woman.

Also yesterday, Renato Usatîi donated an ambulance to the Bălți Municipal Clinical Hospital.

In the snap parliamentary elections of July 11, the Party of Action and Solidarity won 52.8% of the ballot, the Electoral Bloc of the Communists and the Socialists – 27.1%, while Șor Party – 5.7%. The Electoral Bloc “Renato Usatîi” gained only 4.1% of the poll and didn’t enter Parliament given that the election threshold for blocs is 7%.

In Bălți, BeCS won 40.17% of the vote, PAS – 27.34%, while the Electoral Bloc “Renato Usatîi” – 22.69%.
